Description

The Apothecarian's Roaming Garden (2014)

--This map was made for the Cartographers' Guild 2014 October/November Lite Challenge, Home Away From Home.
--The purpose of the challenge was to design a home that adventurers can have access to while roaming the wilds.
--This map depicts a house and garden that floats on clouds a few feet above the surface of the ground.
--The map was hand-drawn, and digitally coloured and annotated.
--The inspiration for this map came from stories of wandering physicians in ancient and medieval China, who would keep bonsai trees with them to produce the ingredients necessary for salves and potions.
--The design of this map was heavily influenced by Japanese art and architecture, and, in particular, Hayao Miyazaki's depiction of Howl's Moving Castle.
--The plants named in the map, and their effects, are partially based on traditional Asian medicines, and partially of my own creation.

I just stumbled across your art, and I'm really enjoying it!

This is a cool concept. I also have an interest in herbology, so a lot of those plants sound a little familiar. Kinda confusing when the ones with names I recognize have descriptions that don't match, though. E.g., skullcap is a tree in this world, not a flower? Ginseng is an aphrodisiac? Foxglove is not highly poisonous and used to treat heart palpitations? What? {X D

The black cat curled up on the porch is a cute touch.
